AssembleSound held an Industry Panel at their historic St. Paul's Church location Saturday (Dec 12), which featured APX's own JoeRobinson, along with other Detroit heavy hitters. Panelists included independent artist Grant “Griz”Kwiechinski, music supervision and licensing director at Assemble Sound Nicole Churchhill, songwriter Antea Shelton, and Harrison Diskin, promotions and marketing for React Presents. The Q&A session discussed being successful in the industry, the Internets impact on those making a living off their talent and the comparison of the “Matrix v. Zion"; with the Matrix being major labels and Zion as the home for the independent artists.
The two-hour conversation brought up great points on each entity and being artists in each field, where they differ and which leaves one with a more satisfying career. The result was ideas on how to merge and/or break the system of conglomerates and big companies owning your talent, bringing money and true ownership back into the creators’ hands.
The panel highlighted key elements of Detroit talents and the power artist and consumers have together. Detroit and its industry leaders are definitely focused and making major moves in their respective fields. Keep your eyes and ears open or you will miss the greatness stemming from not only APX, but from the city as a whole.
